[Day 5 - Early Afternoon] Crisis Event: Mars Attacks!

by Boogiepop
This is a dangerous event.
Participants: 4-5 characters
The motorcade of Argus Security guards had interrupted the gathering at Vineland earlier, picking up VIPs from the Weyland Consortium and flying them out in quick order. The vehicles would depart one after another, making their way to the closest safe house and the closest airport to get their personnel to safety. Elizabeth Mills would be one of the last to leave the event, getting into the hopper van with the black tinted windows. There was a bit of annoyance in her eyes, despite the fact that she wore a pleasant expression like a mask. Of course, she wasn't too pleased with only being allocated two Argus Security guards, even if Chief Slee was among one of the best. There was more than enough room to pick up a few people, either she might have chatted with during the wine tasting event or merely thought were good enough to put in front of her in case anything should happen.

Jane had managed to finagle herself a seat by playing up her great fear of those 'dust devils' and their 'crazed martian blood' due to her supposed time working at Olympus Mons.
Of course, she was also taking the opportunity to surreptitiously listen in to the guard's chatter as she occasionally taped a small firearm strapped to the hip under her dress.

Nadia wasn't exactly the type to rush into the fray like Chief Slee or perhaps the others that Elizabeth had garnered the attention of prior to leaving. However, her skills could be exceptionally useful in surprising circumstances and none of those included remaining behind. So, close to hand Nadia was in one of the seats along with Elizabeth Mills and ready to follow her direction to the exacting letter.

On paper (figuratively; no one used paper anymore, of course), Leo was in Weyland's security department. More specifically, though, he was in Security "special projects". This meant that he didn't have a normal set of duties, except to support the company as he saw fit. And kill people when told to. Technically, this made him a contract worker rather than full time, but the corp still gave him health insurance. Even heartless corporations felt it was wise to keep their assassins healthy.
This meant that when Leo got a call from Elizabeth Mills and Nadia, he decided to take it. And go with them. He sat in the vehicle, visage as stern as ever, ready for trouble. But then, he was always ready for trouble.

Roger wasn't dressed as he normally was. No, it was the carapace. The covering over his face spray painted with a stylized oni for intimidation tactics. Almost out of habit, the juggernaut checked his carbine, having acted as security for the tasting.
Though the kind they kept out of sight of the VIPs.

Di sat cross legged, still sippin some wine, a playful smirk on her lips.
"Thanks for the ride."

Leo glanced around. The group seemed to be half wine-drinking socialites, and half corporate servitors. Counting him among the second group, of course.
He frowned at Jane. She was perhaps a bit of each. Something that didn't fit. The Lunar socialite (Lunalite?), though, she certainly fit.
Mentally shrugging, he looked out the window.

Just because it was a reinforced vehicle, didn't mean that there wasn't some room for luxury with comfortable and cushy leather seats. There was even a miniature fridge in the middle with a wine dispenser. However, given the seriousness and the need for urgency, even Elizabeth Mills wasn't too keen on partaking in anything that was offered here. She was perhaps on PAD, silently getting a few readings on where the other execs were headed while delegating certain responsibilities. Just because she was potentially in danger didn't mean that she didn't have work to do!
As they were flying to their intended destination, the skies were rather clear of traffic compared to the rest of New Angeles. La Costa did have a strict policy when it came to air traffic, often keeping those reserved for few vehicles. It almost seemed like they were flying on their own, safe for one other that trailed nearby...
Without warning, a constant stream of micro-missiles was unleashed from its salvo and slammed onto the vehicles. While the vehicle was resistant to such attacks, it was enough to damage the propulsion systems and send it flying to the ground below...
[OOC: Please roll Resilience (Brawn) at Average Difficulty or suffer a Critical Hit at -30 for vehicle safety features.
Also, initiative at Vigilance (Willpower)!]

Nadia was half in the net, performing what sweeps she could before there was a blinding smack. Coming to recognition of what was happening as a stinging pain crept over her skull. Finding some difficulty in making heads or tails of where she was for the moment.

While he was always expecting trouble, that many missiles was
something of a surprise to Leo. "Hang on!" He said through tightly grit teeth as their vehicle went down. Even knowing there were safety features, he couldn't help but feel a pit in his stomach as they fell from the sky.
...
Grunting, bruised but not damaged, Leo sat up, pulling off his seatbelt. "Everyone okay?" He grunted. He didn't wait for an answer as he pulled out one of his pistols, and released his drone, letting it scan the area.

The hopper would hurl down to the ground below, crashing into the canopy of trees with a flurry of trouble tall branches and tropical leaves swatting at the vehicle in every which way. It might have been considered certain death if it wasn't for the safety propulsion systems kicking in and bringing the vehicle to a quick stop, albeit with a lot of jolts and jostling for the occupants before landing with a thud. The occupants would hear the droning of a ring as it asked the occupants to remain in the vehicle until the NAPD and emergency dispatched would arrive. The screens would flicker various safety systems that scanned the occupants, notating each of their injuries.
However, through the cracked window, the passengers could see several figures emerge in the distance and converge to their area.

Scenario: Crimson Dust have sprung their trap, bringing Elizabeth Mills in the open and bringing down her vehicle. The vehicle has crashed deep into the wilderness of La Costa, where it may take a while for help to reach them even by air and find them through the thick jungle. While reinforcements from Argus Security and emergency responders are inbound, Crimson Dust may have then enough time to attempt to finish the job unless something is done
This area of La Costa is a thick jungle filled with various shrubs, trees and other flora. Between the chaos and the heavy vegetation, this will be an unpredictable firefight.
Committee Victory: If victorious in defeating Crimson Dust or extracting Elizabeth Mills from the location, all participants will either gain a Regular Favour from the Weyland Consortium or Elizabeth Mills.
Mission Failed: If Elizabeth Mills is captured or killed, the Mayor's Committee will lose 1 Agenda Point.
Additional Conditions:
- Jungle Firefight: There is thick vegetation in the area that will grant any ground-level combatant being attacked or otherwise targeted from Medium Range or further away will benefit from one Range Defence (+ ■).
- Crashsite: All PCs and friendly NPCs begin at the armoured hopper wreckage and are automatically in cover with one Range Defence (+ ■) until characters move or are ousted from the position. This stacks with the above rule.
- VIP For A Day: All PCs have been suited with Light Body Armor (+2 Soak, Encumbrance 2) from the Argus Security portal armoury and may start off wearing this if they wish.
- Only 43 years From Retirement:
Argus Security Guard
Poor Private Cevallos is lying facedown in the driver's seat, he might be unconscious or dead. However, he is armed with an Assault Rifle and Pistol that the PCs can take. It's a stock model without the biometrics security put on some Argus Security guns.
- Had a Bad Feeling About This: All PCs may take advantage of Preparedness Points, these work the same way as Story Points but are not flipped to the GM when used and are lost at the end of this event.
1 from Jane's investigation of Perez
1 from Lina-19's investigation of the Accident
2 from Jane's discovery of the culprit
1 from Nadia's thwarting of the runner
5 Preparedness Points in total!
Attack Drone starts off at Long Range.
Gregor Logan is Adversary 2, starts off at Long Range.
Teodora Darius is Adversary 1, starts off at Long Range, standing at high ground on a Network tower.
Strike Group 1 starts off at Long Range.
Strike Group 2 starts off at Long Range.
Strike Group 3 starts off at Long Range.

"Leo! Heavily armed and modded for some weird reason 'roid! Nadia! Do the thing with the...thing! You know!" Di was super helpful!
Meanwhile she scrambled forward to check on the pilot. "Hey! Hey! Can this thing still fly? Wait. Are you breathing?"

Argus Security Guard
Diana couldn't really do a medical analysis of him really but he might have suffered the worst out of everyone in the van and is currently knocked unconscious. Judging by all of the warnings giving by the vehicle's display, it didn't look like the van was going to fly any time soon.

The door to the hopper was kicked open as the bioroid ran out. His carbine swung into position with programmed lethality, the enhanced cybereyes moving into the tactical program last used during the war.
Identifying the most commanding presence on the field, he opened fire, shell casings ejecting from the weapon as a torrent of rapid fire lead erupted from the muzzle, heading downrange, hitting the target, Gregor.
