[Day 7 - Late Morning] Crisis Event: Construction Accident
[Day 7 - Late Morning] Crisis Event: Construction Accident
The 'morning' shift at the Docklands began routinely with crews C3 through C6 being replaced by crews A2 through A2. The work here wasn't constrained by rotating daylight but relied on available workers. True to Mayor Delgado's word, even the initial work of preparing the Docklands for future contracts had given the colony a good influx of work in a short amount of time. There were delays, accidents and mishaps that happened on site. They were unavoidable considering that there were several different contracting companies working on-site, some even not belonging to the same parent company. Most of them were routine and expected, even when it comes to a project on Luna.
Crane A at site 6 was lifting a large piece of dome glass to retrofit on the existing dome structure before coming to a complete halt, the cabling was seemingly jammed and unable to further lift its load. The crane operator did what he could to quickly troubleshoot the situation by the book but unfortunately, the structure of the crane started to wobble and suddenly collapse like a deck of cards with little warning. Despite the lower gravity causing the fall to slow, panic quickly infected the crew on the ground below. Some were trying to warn others to safety while others merely fled and cared only for themself. The communication channels had gone haywire with pandemonium.
The dome glass hit the ground first, cracking but not shattering completely as it crumpled a few office pods nearby. The crane itself had the worst of it as it smashed against a fuel truck and which caused an explosion, sending scraps of metal everywhere and tossing a large amount of debris in the air. The surface was coated with dust from the lunar surface. While the flames were mercifully short-lived, the damage was done.
The committee loses 1 Agenda Point.
With the construction site in panic, all available and able hands are asked to quickly lend their help to remedy the crisis. Any number of participants may take part in this Crisis Event.
Rescue Operation
The on-site catastrophe is easily too much work for the committee to reasonably handle alone, the work needed to put everything back together seems insurmountable. Needless to say, there will be some delays at site 6 of the Docklands. Committee members may be responsible for leading the available crews to quickly address the situation and stop further accidents from happening. Engineers are needed to clear the damaged crane, debris and rescue some of the trapped workers still inside the containers. First responders must also wade through the wreckage to provide aid to those who need it, sealing wounds to stabilize injuries inside sealed suits. Even if injuries aren't an issue for some who manage to get away, oxygen is another concern, especially those trapped.
Any participating may make a skill check using the following skills:
Leadership (Presence)
Cool (Presence)
Vigilance (Willpower)
Perception (Cunning)
Survival (Cunning)
Science (Intelligence)
Mechanics (Intelligence)
Driving (Agility)
Operation (Intelligence)
Athletics (Brawn)
Coordination (Agility)
Medicine (Intelligence)
With the exception of Medicine (Intelligence) and Athletics (Brawn), each skill in this event can only be used once by the committee as a whole.
When making this skill check, the participant may pick a Difficulty from Easy (◆) to Daunting (◆◆◆◆) to roll against, which indicates their commitment to the ongoing recue operation.
For every two Advantages, the next participant's roll gains 1 Boost die. For every two Threats, the next participant's next roll gains 1 Setback die. A Triumph upgrades the skill check of the next participant and Despair upgrades the difficulty of the next participant's roll.
Result
At the conclusion of the operation, if 10 or more Difficulty dice were rolled and succeeded against, the committee is able to aid in the operation enough so that there are no long-term delays to the work at site 6. The workers are also very thankful for the aid that they've received here, despite the fact they will have to return to work in the near future. The committee gains 1 Agenda Point.
If 15 or more Difficulty dice were rolled and succeeded against, the local Heinlein population is very impressed and notably touched by the aid of the committee. In addition, everyone involved here gains one Regular Favour from the Loonies.

"Move that thing to the place. There. Watch your back! Lift carefully! Watch out, don't step on that!" Di was very helpfully managing - aka bossing - everyone around.
"Sheesh, do I have to do everything around here?"
OOC:
D7 Crisis Event, Leadership (Presence), GMP used, Story point for G-Mod, +3 sux, Daunting: 2eA+2eP+4eD 2 successes, 3 threat

Total is 5 sux and 3 threat, 1 serback to next roller, but 4 difficulty dice down.

Re: [Day 7 - Late Morning] Crisis Event: Construction Accident
Although NAG models were designed for more social and bureaucratic purposes, they were quite well-suited to performing inspections not only in meetings, but also on the field, and they were still highly resistant steel, plasteel and carbon-steel beings.
With that and a programming that placed the safety of people (people of all kinds and makes, they now thought), it was no surprise that #19 was quick to move to the site of the accident on the Docklands to see how they might assist.
The obvious reason was their built-in high-capacity sensors. They moved around and scanned the area of the accident trying to find possible survivors and key areas that might still pose further risks during rescue operations. As they started, the weight of one of the collapsed buildings made it move further, the strain making it fold onto itself. Although the shock initially took their attention from the task at hand, they quickly reacted, helping a few of the others who were working on the area move away from under the still-collapsing structure, and readily refocused on the task at hand.
A number of workers who were still trapped among the debris would be much easier to reach and save due to the Governmental robot's work.
Perhaps that might even change some of these workers' opinion of bioroids?...
OOC:
D7 LM - Construction Accident; Perception vs Daunting, 1 Setback negated by Knack for It; Story point upgrade: 2eP+3eA+4eD 0 successes, 1 advantage, 1 Triumph

Using the Nautilus bonus reroll to reroll 1eP+3eA (keeping the Triumph!) and 1eD (keeping the blank and the two threats!
D7 LM - Construction Accident; rerolling all good dice but Triumph and the difficulty die with a failure using the Nautilus bonus!: 1eP+3eA+1eD 0 successes, 5 advantage

Total results:
1 success (from triumph!), 1 Triumph, 6 advantage
Success against 4 difficulty dice; total of 8/10 for now!
3 boost and 1 upgrade to next participant's roll!

Re: [Day 7 - Late Morning] Crisis Event: Construction Accident
Despite being quite used to violence, Leo wasn't used to something like this. Disasters were on a different sort of scale than bullets or knives. Impersonal, and yet so widespread. Not to minimize his own killings, of course, but...
Still, part of Leo was happy to lend his strength to the rescue effort. Mostly the mechanical part; Leo's cyberarm wouldn't tire, and could grip and perform some motions with terrific power. His back, though, certainly wouldn't thank him later.
But it was nice to be helping people, for a change.

Ven was not suited to anything physical . . . but he could certainly use SCIENCE! to point out where the best efforts should be made in avoiding total disaster.
So he did SCIENCE! and did it well.

Nadia was more comfortable with software, but she has the know-how of human construction in her brain enough to have a stepping stone toward figuring this out. Words spread around, thoughtful advice given, at the end of the day her contribution wasn't as major as some others but it added to the final goal.

Event Over!
Total Committee Score 15/10
The construction accident at site 6 could easily be considered a disaster but thanks to the committee and the collective perseverance of the workers, they were able to respond quickly to reduce damage and casualties. The large efforts of the committee had not gone unnoticed, especially some of them personally pitching in on the rescue efforts themselves. This had earned the respect of the locals, who at first viewed them as either glorified tourists or entitled Loonies. While one incident wouldn't bridge over the divide so easily, it was easily a start.
No Agenda Point Lost!
The Committe receives a Regular Favour from the Loonies!
