[Day 7 - Late Morning] Crisis Event: Construction Accident
Posted: Thu Sep 30, 2021 1:20 am
The 'morning' shift at the Docklands began routinely with crews C3 through C6 being replaced by crews A2 through A2. The work here wasn't constrained by rotating daylight but relied on available workers. True to Mayor Delgado's word, even the initial work of preparing the Docklands for future contracts had given the colony a good influx of work in a short amount of time. There were delays, accidents and mishaps that happened on site. They were unavoidable considering that there were several different contracting companies working on-site, some even not belonging to the same parent company. Most of them were routine and expected, even when it comes to a project on Luna.
Crane A at site 6 was lifting a large piece of dome glass to retrofit on the existing dome structure before coming to a complete halt, the cabling was seemingly jammed and unable to further lift its load. The crane operator did what he could to quickly troubleshoot the situation by the book but unfortunately, the structure of the crane started to wobble and suddenly collapse like a deck of cards with little warning. Despite the lower gravity causing the fall to slow, panic quickly infected the crew on the ground below. Some were trying to warn others to safety while others merely fled and cared only for themself. The communication channels had gone haywire with pandemonium.
The dome glass hit the ground first, cracking but not shattering completely as it crumpled a few office pods nearby. The crane itself had the worst of it as it smashed against a fuel truck and which caused an explosion, sending scraps of metal everywhere and tossing a large amount of debris in the air. The surface was coated with dust from the lunar surface. While the flames were mercifully short-lived, the damage was done.
The committee loses 1 Agenda Point.
With the construction site in panic, all available and able hands are asked to quickly lend their help to remedy the crisis. Any number of participants may take part in this Crisis Event.
Rescue Operation
The on-site catastrophe is easily too much work for the committee to reasonably handle alone, the work needed to put everything back together seems insurmountable. Needless to say, there will be some delays at site 6 of the Docklands. Committee members may be responsible for leading the available crews to quickly address the situation and stop further accidents from happening. Engineers are needed to clear the damaged crane, debris and rescue some of the trapped workers still inside the containers. First responders must also wade through the wreckage to provide aid to those who need it, sealing wounds to stabilize injuries inside sealed suits. Even if injuries aren't an issue for some who manage to get away, oxygen is another concern, especially those trapped.
Any participating may make a skill check using the following skills:
Leadership (Presence)
Cool (Presence)
Vigilance (Willpower)
Perception (Cunning)
Survival (Cunning)
Science (Intelligence)
Mechanics (Intelligence)
Driving (Agility)
Operation (Intelligence)
Athletics (Brawn)
Coordination (Agility)
Medicine (Intelligence)
With the exception of Medicine (Intelligence) and Athletics (Brawn), each skill in this event can only be used once by the committee as a whole.
When making this skill check, the participant may pick a Difficulty from Easy (◆) to Daunting (◆◆◆◆) to roll against, which indicates their commitment to the ongoing recue operation.
For every two Advantages, the next participant's roll gains 1 Boost die. For every two Threats, the next participant's next roll gains 1 Setback die. A Triumph upgrades the skill check of the next participant and Despair upgrades the difficulty of the next participant's roll.
Result
At the conclusion of the operation, if 10 or more Difficulty dice were rolled and succeeded against, the committee is able to aid in the operation enough so that there are no long-term delays to the work at site 6. The workers are also very thankful for the aid that they've received here, despite the fact they will have to return to work in the near future. The committee gains 1 Agenda Point.
If 15 or more Difficulty dice were rolled and succeeded against, the local Heinlein population is very impressed and notably touched by the aid of the committee. In addition, everyone involved here gains one Regular Favour from the Loonies.
