[Day 5] Agenda Event: The Stock Exchange (The NASX)

Bright, radiant and hip. When the world thinks of New Angeles, they think of Rutherford. The megacity's centre of attention.

[Day 5] Agenda Event: The Stock Exchange (The NASX)

The world was shocked by the unfortunate incidents headed by the audacious Martian extremists around the solar system. While most megacorporations and businesses have been largely directly unaffected by the current events, confidence revolving around business ventures outside of Earth has taken a quick tumble in the stock market as a result. The results are made further obvious by the NASX index. Seeing as the mayor's project is largely revolving around the expansion of the moon colony of Heinlein, supporters and investors are starting to have second thoughts.

In order to assuage financial concerns, the committee must raise the NASX index to a respectable amount to overcome the sudden decline in the economy. There are a few stocks, mostly those in the Weyland Consortium, that are tied to ventures in space. Normally these stocks are out of reach from most New Angelinos but Titan Transnational Bank has generously allowed leverage loans so that enterprising investors may invest as if their credits were multiplied. While the mayor is only concerned about the bigger picture, there is an opportunity to earn a lucrative profit here.

Time Slot: Please note, this event does not take up a timeslot during the day. While day trading finishes Late Afternoon, trading can be done both on-site or through the Network.

Trading Stress
Traders can buy and/or trade up to three times. If the Trader has a Strain Threshold of 13 or more, they may trade up to four times. If a Trader has a Strain Threshold of 15 or more, they may trade up to five times instead.

Each subsequent trade with the same stock by the same player after the first trade will increase the Trading Difficulty by one rank.

Evaluation
The individual stock's evaluation will be the sum of all trades by each trader. Each result is counted with each other when it comes to results as a sum.

Example:
Sandra is trading in Melange Mining stocks.
1st Trade: Negotiation (Presence) skill check at Easy Difficulty () with results 3 Success, 1 Advantage and 1 Triumph.
2nd Trade: Negotiation (Presence) skill check at Average Difficulty (◆◆) with results 2 Failure and 1 Advantage.
3rd Trade: Negotiation (Presence) skill check (adding 2 boost dice + ■■ from Stock Speculation) at Hard Difficulty (◆◆◆) with results 1 Success and 2 Threats.
Trade Evaluation: 2 Index Points and +6% from 2 Success, 3 Advantage (from Triumph result, see below)

If a trader is confident in their commitment, it is possible to merely add all dice involved in all trades and roll them all at once for each stock trade. Taking the above example, Sandra would multiply her Negotiation skill by three with 2 Boost dice and rolling against 6 Difficulty dice.

The advantage, threat, triumph and despair results from those rolls are not used until the last trade. Each success earned by a trader at the end of trading will be worth one Index point. Each Advantage and Threat will be counted overall for each individual stock, given the ever-changing stock market.

Each Advantage will raise the yield and each Threat will lower the yield by an equal amount. Each Triumph may count as either an additional success or 3 advantage, trader's choice. Each Despair remaining will count at 3 threats.

Step One: Stock Speculation (Optional)
Prior to hitting the trading floor, the trader may do some forward research regarding all stocks listed for trade in the NASX. It can be a difficult task, although reports of trends can give a trader a snapshot regarding each company profile. However, it is up to interpretation when it comes to what the trader does with this information. Some of this information could be misleading in the wrong hands and affect some decision-making down the line.

The Trader may make a skill check using either Perception (Cunning) or Society (Intelligence) at Average Difficulty (◆◆). Every 2 Advantages or 2 Threat are converted to one Boost Die or one Setback Die respectfully. On success, the Trader gains an additional Boost Die. On failure, the Trader gains an additional Setback Die. This is in addition to those generated by Advantages and Threats.

The Boost and Setback dice gained from this attempt must be applied to one trade of the Trader's choice. Triumphs will count as a roll upgrade and Despair will count as a difficulty upgrade. All bonuses and setbacks must be applied to the same roll when used.

Step Two: Stock Trading
Megacorporation ventures off-Earth have been adversely affected and will be the key focus on affecting the NASX index. While some Traders may not end the day with those stocks, they will serve as a foundation for their trades throughout the day.

When making a trade with the stock, the Trader may use either Negotiation (Presence), Cool (Presence) or Computer (SysOp) (Intelligence) by operating the trading console. The difficulties are determined by each relevant stock below.

Melange Mining
Starting Trade Difficulty: Easy ()
Stock Yield per Advantage/Threat: 2%
Beginning Evaluation: 92%

Argus Security
Starting Trade Difficulty: Average (◆◆)
Stock Yield per Advantage/Threat: 5%
Beginning Evaluation: 90%

Jemison Astronautics
Starting Trade Difficulty: Average with two upgrades and two Setback (⬟⬟ ■ ■)
Stock Yield per Advantage/Threat: 20%
Beginning Evaluation: 60%

Gagarin Deep Space
Starting Trade Difficulty: Average with two Setback (◆◆ ■ ■)
Stock Yield per Advantage/Threat: 7%
Beginning Evaluation: 100%

Results
If the committee is collectively able to gather at least 12 Index Points at the end of the event, they will be granted 1 Agenda Point.

For each Index Point gained after 12 will raise the evaluation of all stocks by 1% as the NASX achieves a solid day in trading.

Based on the few questions about the event on discord, I'll open buying stocks for another 12-ish hours. Yes, you can also roll for the event too. :)

Stock trading! Not something Ven thought much about. He cared about Jinteki's value as he had a few shares from work related things but paid little attention to the market as a whole. Now the Committee was making him pay attention.

He viewed the current market over his morning can of Diesel. Cherry Diesel to be exact. He savoured the taste and had just about figured out what to do when he had to run and rescue Rawr from being suffocated by the roll of toilet paper he was shredding.

He logged into the Net via his wireless skulljack and started trading. His first efforts with Argus Security weren't particularly successful at shoring up the overall market but did give the company a little boost.

His efforts to boost Gagarin Deep Space's status were much more successful and he Nya'd so happily and loudly that he startled his entire sysop team in their cubicles.

NAG Mk-3s were not stock trading models at all. Those focused on trading through the net, which was much faster and often had better results. But their built-in societal analysis skillset at least gave them some idea of what might be expected and how to leverage some information.

They decided to do some trading on Jemison Astronautics stocks first. For obvious reasons, the company was the hardest hit by the Martian terrorists, so putting some effort to keep it afloat and convince others not to leave it to its own devices, while hard, struck them as important. They did manage to build up some confidence in the company... even though their trading didn't do much to change the company's market value itself.

Their next operations were with slightly less risky ventures. For both Gagarin Deep Space and Argus Security, the bioroid's negotiations managed to tilt the company values up by a small amount - although the effect on public perception was not as noticeable as with Jemison Astronautics.

They were tilts in the right direction, though... and maybe along with the others in the committee the effect on the market would be enough to restore confidence in the mayor's project.

OOC:
D5 Agenda - Stock Exchange - Stock Speculation. Perception vs Avg. GM Upgrade: 1eP+4eA+1eD+1eC 0 successes, 4 advantage

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
Jemison Astronautics
2 successes; Triumph used for 3 advantage (cancels out 3 threat!)

D5 Agenda - Stock Exchange - Trading, Gagarin Deep Space. Negotiation vs Avg, 2 setback.: 1eP+2eA+2eD+2eS 0 successes, 1 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
Gagarin Deep Space
1 advantage

D5 Agenda - Stock Exchange - Trading, Argus Security. Negotiation vs Avg: 1eP+2eA+2eD 0 successes, 2 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImage
Argus Security
2 advantage

Total:
If advantages and threats affect each stock separately (They do, Boogie said so! XD ):
Jemison astronautics: +0% (3 threats, 1 Triumph for 3 adv!)
Gagarin Deep Space: +7% (1 advantage)
Argus Security: +10% (2 advantages)

Buy low, sell high.

...

That was the extent of what Leo knew about buying stocks.

He was at least fast. That was part of trading, right? And his cybereye allowed him to note slight fluctuations in prices, and react to them. He just didn't know what any of that actually meant!

Still, that was enough to affect it... somehow. He was pretty sure. Numbers changed. It was all the same to him.

Nadia wasn't a stock trader, nor was she really a person enough to be making investments in stocks. She did, however, take the opportunity to mess around a bit with data manipulation. It was decent enough practice and by the end of the day Jemison Astronautics had seen something.. unexpected.

[Rolls:]

Day 5, Agenda | Speculation: Society, Skulljack, Net Search: 3eP+1eA+1eC+1eD 3 successes, 3 advantage, 1 Triumph
ImageImageImageImageImageImage

Day 5, Agenda | All Trades at Once: Sysops, Upgrade from Spec, Boosts from Spec, Knack for It vs Jemison, Jemison, Jemison: 12eP+1eA+2eB+6eC+2eD 8 successes, 8 advantage, 1 Triumph, 1 Despair
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Day 5, Agenda | All Trades at Once: Forgotten Difficulty: 1eD 0 successes, 2 threat
Image

I'd forgotten a difficulty, because it's Jemison x3 it should be 1 add, and then 2 add, so 3. Which is now modified below.

3 Index Points, 6 Advantage 120% change to Jemison???, [Triumph for 3 Advantage, Despair for 3 Threat, negated.]

Di put up her classy shades, and decided to get DOWN AND DIRTY for the stocks!

She shouldn't have. Really shouldn't have.

Jemison Astronautics: 187% (1.87x multiplier)
Gagarin Deep Space: 163% (1.63x multiplier)

Multiply your contribution based on your investment!

Diversified stock portfolio value (From the New Angeles Expo)
99+112+187+163, 100 Credits invested in each stock. All holders of this portfolio may cash out the portfolio and receive 561 credits (instead of the original 400 credits)!

Total Committee Score 19/12 (7 points over, +7% gains on all stocks)

After a day of heavy trading in the wake of the Mars Crimson Dust terrorist attack (and the local assassination attempt of Elizabeth Mills), it seemed the markets bounced back at full force. While the radical Martian-mutant fanatics were effective in their campaign of terror earlier in the day, they stood no chance against the full might of Earth capitalism, which almost made their attempt trivial by compassion. It was assumed that hope and optimism trickled down from the top, easing the fears of other New Angelinos.

+1 Agenda Point!

Note, some changes were made to the stock gains as I realized that we were above the goal and that adds gains to all the stocks. Note the multipliers and multiply the amount you've put into each stock to determine your new amounts!
