Curious Cat [Day 7, LA]

[Nadia Avaline]

Elizabeth was busy. Back home, Nadia would have stolen such a moment to sneak her way out and over toward an arcade in the city. Not a lot of questions usually got asked there which meant she could keep a low profile. Out here though, she wasn't sure where or what anything was. Having little cause to travel off the official path before now.

However, she didn't feel like she was straying too far as she sunk lower and lower into the sublevels of the twin-domes. A journey which started from the front of the hotel that Elizabeth almost surely had accomodations within and thus Nadia did as well. After the events some time ago she'd taken to these little walks a little more frequently than she had in the past. Time away from everything to consider things she hadn't thought to consider before.

There was a peace to it, one that capture her focus.

The city life on Luna was vastly different than the one found on Earth, to say the least. There was a lot of open-air space on Earth that was not remotely found here. Even the densest parts of the lower city of New Angeles suddenly seem overly spacious in comparison. The twin domes are admittedly considered 'spacious' by Lunar standards, although most Earthers will find the enclosed corridors and the recycled air a bit constricting in many ways.

However, that being the case, Loonies still have places to go and most of them travel by foot underground with the few buggies and trains taking them to where they need to be. Even at the lower levels, Nadia will find herself sounded by a few people. That said, the under levels looked rougher and less polished than the rest of the colony, it almost seemed like there was only a thin divide between the colony and the lunar rock ground on the otherwise of its bare walls. The lights here are a bit dim.



There was a woman who was dressed in a simple worker's jumpsuit and she seemed to quickly spot Nadia among the people here. Nadia was different and she stuck out. She strolled up right beside her, making it obvious that she was watching her.

Having the sudden appearance of someone at your side would spook just about anyone, to be sure. However, even then Nadia managed to stand out a little bit more as she gasped and seized up.

"H-hello?" the slight spark of inquiry, slight shake to her voice but composing herself with each new syllable. Finding her way back toward her typical composure, masking as she was sure Elizabeth did.

Despite instigating this sudden inspection of Nadia, the woman found herself a bit startled when Nadia took notice of what she was obviously doing around her. She quickly gazed around, half-embarrassed and half-looking to see if anyone else had noticed her. It took a moment for her to recompose herself as she put her hands in her pockets. "Sorry about that, you don't look like you're from around here. Not anyone I know, at least. But you did look familiar, that's all. I'm Sadie, I work filtration around here...are you lost?"

Her jumpsuit would indicate 'Sadie' on the name tag, so her story checked out for now.

Gaining the composure her eyes had narrowed on the woman, seeking out that nametag as it was noticed. Focusing on the tag just as the woman's name was revealed a momentary correlation of events that brought on a faint smile. Shaking her head in the negative she would look back to the woman, taking a moment to familiarize herself with her face. Once she'd gotten a handle on whom she was talking to, clothing , nametag, face, nadia found a little more of that comfort. Especially due to the jumpsuit which she registered as a uniform.

"I am not. I started to wander from.." she furrows her brow as she glances over her right shoulder back the way she came. A similar hallway as all the others before, at least to her eye. "I have arrived alongside Elizabeth Mills, at the hotel. I was.. familiarizing myself," she says, a distant look as she loses track of what else she should or shouldn't say in this situation.

Sadie

"The hotel?" she asked at first and looked around both sides of the corridor. "I don't think there's much of a hotel around here, miss. The only ones we have around here probably charge but the hour. You're probably talking about the nicer hotels, the ones near the surface? You had to walk a long way to get here from up there. I don't know if this place is even on the map...Who's Elizabeth Mills?"

The name had absolutely no weight or meaning to her.

"Yes, the upper levels," she reports. Standing for a moment there was the pause to determine how long she'd been walking and, "Perhaps I should be heading back then, if I've already gone so far," the vocalized consideration as she looks over her shoulder once more. Focusing on the woman, "Elizabeth Mills holds my contract and is an impo- is there a map around here?" she breaks off the thought.

Sadie

"Some ways from the upper levels, probably a long train ride at least," she brought up as a fact with a few nods. "There isn't really much of a map here but I can show you to the nearest train station and it should take you the rest of the way there."

After an awkward pause, she seemed to find enough courage to address an elephant in the room. Not that she had ever seen an elephant before, judging from the woman's tall stature and elongated features, she seemed to be most definitely a born Loonie without the credits for G-mod or Cyborg alteration to look otherwise. "...You're a clone, aren't you?"

[Nadia Avaline]

"Nadia, Avaline series," a nod for good measure. Arms crossed in front of herself held down by her waist. Turning more fully toward the woman as they'd stopped.

"I would appreciate your assistance in this matter," she adds, the briefest of smiles. "I've taken some trains, yes. But I did not think I had gotten too far, but it appears I have."

Sadie

Sadie nodded slowly at the mention of her name, confirming her suspicions of Nadia long before they started talking to each other. "Oh...yeah, I thought so. I think I saw something about the Avaline series once in an ad. They're very new."

She frowned faintly. "I mean, you're all very new. I thought you were supposed to be living in server rooms and not wandering around the lower levels of the habitat. We see a lot of Henry lines around here but never anything else. There's supposed to be a whole lot of you but never on Luna."

"Oh, here..." she murmured, just remembering that she was supposed to be helping the other woman. Sadia began leading the way by walking down one of the corridors. "So, you like your owner? She a technical or computer person too?"

Nadia places herself easily into step beside the woman, if just a singular step behind. As they walk Nadia considers the idea again, but comes to the same, ""I do not understand the question. Elizabeth Mills is my owner, there is no assessment of liking or not required. Clones do not have a need for preferences," she reports, trained well.

""Avaline series are not only useful in server rooms, maintaining company net security but some are sold to well off individuals whom desire a little extra security for their devices and data. Having an Avaline model on hand means peace of mind," she says, the pride in a brief smile slipping out.

""As for Miss Mills, she readily relies upon my expertise in these fields. Managing as an executive requires an extensive amount of work. I am certain she appreciates the peace of mind I afford."

Sadie

"No, I guess not..." she said with a scratch of her shoulder, feeling a bit silly for asking a clone in the first place and probably was expecting some sort of groundbreaking answer from her. "I always thought some clones just wanted more than do whatever they were made to do, right? You don't just eat, sleep, work, right? It doesn't seem like much..."

There was a hesitant pause from Sadie. Maybe she considered if her life was really different or something else entirely. Her hands fiddled around her jumpsuit pockets to find something. Sadie seemed to be leading Nadia toward the right direction, there were a few signs that pointed to the "LunaRide" metro along the way.

"An executive, huh?" The title didn't seem to have much of an impact on Sadie. Wasn't everyone working in a megacorporation an executive, nowadays? 'Boss' was more a catchall phrase she was familiar with for supervisors, managers, owners, and even executives. "She must be breathing down your neck a lot."

Nadia seems about ready to answer the first bit when she hesitates. A thought overtaking her a moment, she'd come all this way on a whim of curiosity after all. A couple weeks ago it would have been the simplest answer. Nadia's whole world being eat, sleep, work, wasn't anything groundbreaking or hard on the senses as she'd known little else. Couple times sneaking out to go enjoy a personal liberty or two, perhaps, but those were rare and risky excursions despite their rising frequency of late. Answering that question felt hard to do, one way or the other.

Which is perhaps why it was such a relief when Sadie mentioned something about Elizabeth being an executive again. Although Nadia's eyes flit to something she'd noticed and it was clear she'd noticed something as her manner of speaking slowed, "Miss Mills is a woman whom is very busy. I help her with a lot of things, even those beyond my usual parameters."

Sadie

From what Nadia was able to see, it seemed like Sadie was reaching for her PAD. Maybe she was activating an app or making a call. It was a swipe and a few fumbling presses. However, while Nadia was seeing this, Sadie took notice that she was noticing (threat used).

There was an awkward moment before Sadie would manage a smile at Nadia. "...Sorry, work is just bugging me. Nothing that can't get on the next call."

"Oh, so...does she get you to water the plants and pick up the kids sometimes? That's pretty menial stuff...I mean, no offense," she mumbled as they walked on, going up some stairs that lead toward a metro station.

"I have gone to grab her an order of food, coffee, often. What is it that you do?" she asks, making a half nod toward the woman's PAD as her brow furrows slightly.

Sadie

Sadie didn't exactly sound very convincing when it came to her work excuse. If that was a call, it wasn't from work. Actually, there wasn't exactly a ring or vibrate either.

"That sounds fun. I guess you'd rather be doing what you're made for. I work filtration, as I said," she reiterated again with a shrug. "There's a lot of air and carbon dioxide that flows through the station. Sometimes the chemical reaction from the utility stations that generate air needs a little scrubbing or filtering. That's mostly reserved for the complexes up above, they change them less often here. So it's why it feels a bit stuffy and damp here. I try to bring back some of the old filters from the upper levels for my block at least. There's sometimes good money to made on thoses."

"Ah, yes," she says with a glance away. Looking out toward something in the distance as they walked. Arms crossing in front of herself before her stomach and at her waist. Reaching a hand over toward her own PAD on her arm and brushing it lightly as she thought.

"I'm much more comfortable with the net, that's true," she says, a slight awkwardness creeping into her voice. "So.. do you have cybernetics as well?" she asks, looking back to her.

Sadie

"I guess you could want to spend more time there if you could?" She asked curiously as if she was offering some alternative when it came to freedom. "Me, I don't really have much for cybernetics. I guess I have some mods when it came to breathing. When you work in complex filtration, you kind of have to have your own if you're going to be climbing through the dust. So much dust. But for some reason, they won't give anything for my back pain."

As they went up the stairs, they would soon arrive at what looked like a train stop with a shared platform. There were basic benches in the middle with barely enough space to stand on both sides. There was a holographic signboard above that would mention where the train was destined. The trains here were small compared to the ones found on Earth, only consisting of three cars or less. The platform didn't exactly look like it was in good shape with puddles on the ground from the dripping pipes above and some of it smelt like sewage. There was some graffiti on the walls and the benches, various bored Loonies making their claim with their signature. Admittedly, there was a lack of trash rolling about. Loonies at least took littering seriously, especially when the trash always ends up somewhere in their tight quarters.

"The trains can take a while here but there should be one that could take you back. Where did you stay again? At the resort?"

Nadia nods at the suggestion of her wishing to spend more time in the net. It was a simple freedom she often enjoyed, a solitude that wasn't complete solitude. A thought that sent her glancing around, feeling perhaps a bit more uneasy due to her surroundings. Rubbing her PAD underneath the sleeve it rested again, a nervous tick.

""At the resort, yes. I-" she looks to the woman, and then down before rethinking the thought. Though Leo had been different toward her than most, and this person perhaps was asking strange questions of a clone like him a bit. Meant that she would take the leap and, "Why did you lie to me before?" she asks, not with judgement necessarily but with an earnest curiosity.

A feminine voice made an announcement via the overhead speakers. "Next Train to...sub-level 2. Please step away from the edge of the platform, thank you. Tsugi no densha..."


Sadie

"What-Huh?" Sadie blurted out, completely dumbfounded by the accusation. However, she did look obviously uneasy by the question and she found herself glancing around before regarding Nadia. "No, I didn't lie about anything. I do work at filtration. You're probably not understanding."

Soon after her words, a three-car train came zooming in and its front lights were perhaps the brightest thing on the station. It was probably one of the first surfaces that didn't have any graffiti on it either. It came to a quick stop and its door dinged with a catchy chime before sliding open.
